October 2014 & probably the first oil and filter change in about 30 years!
Some pitting on cam shaft, but no other sign of wear.
The Gauze type oil filter was almost completely blocked..
Replacement filter obtained from Meteor Spares service Ltd.
Re fitted sump, ran engine with flushing oil, then drained and refilled with SAE 30 oil from Witham oil and paint.
Oh nearly forgot, went to Goodwood revival and picked up replacement SU carburettor kit so now the petrol doesn’t overflow from the float chamber.
Engine sounds sweet although there is a bit of smoke from the exhaust. perhaps a top overhaul at some point but that can wait.
Breaking news……
Engine running …..
First time in about 3 years….A slight hiccup due to leak in temporary fuel tank line, but quickly resolved. Sounded good… all six cylinders contributing nicely. Now to get it off the axle stands and drive up and down to turn round and start on the other sill. (garage not wide enough to work on both sides at the same time.)
Rover restoration weekend comes to an end!
Did I achieve the objective…..??
Well not quite.. The sill is pretty much complete…can’t do the final welding on the front section as I need to fabricate a replacement panel to replace the rust damaged area.

This panel needs to be remade a bit too rusty along the lower edge to allow new metal to be welded to it.
I did put the rear wheel on to get ready to lower the car back to the ground but as it started raining and as I had forgotten to recharge the battery…Plus I was hungry and tired….
I did turn the engine over a few times on the starting handle, and reconnected the temporary fuel tank….So it’s all set to go may be one night this week if the weather is fine!
